GLATA Offers Safe Sports School Grant Program PDF Print E-mail

Goals of the grant program: Increase the number of NATA 1st Team and 2nd Team Safe Sports School Awards presented to GLATA secondary schools.  As of June 2014, a total of 199 schools have been recognized as Safe Sports Schools by the NATA with 14 (7% of total) of these coming from GLATA.

Details of the grant program: Funding is available for a total of sixty (60) grants, with ten (10) grants designated for each state within the GLATA.  The grant shall pay the entire $150 application fee for the NATA Safe Sports School program.  Funding preference will be given to schools meeting all criteria for 1st team selection, however, all schools meeting 2ndteam criteria are encouraged to apply.

The grant application period will open December 1st, 2014 and close June 1st, 2015.  After March 1st, 2015 any state designated grant that has not been awarded will be allocated to a general grant pool and available to be awarded to any school within the GLATA district.

Once a school has been awarded the Safe Sports School designation from the NATA, a representative from the school will work directly with the GLATA Public Relations (PR) Committee Chair and respective state association PR representatives to draft an appropriate public relations portfolio (press release, photography, videography, social media, etc).

Recognition of GLATA as the funding source is required for all grant winners.   The phrase, “Funding for this award was provided by the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association” should be added to any print or digital material produced by the school recognizing the Safe Sports School Award.

President Obama Announces NATA/NFL/PFATS Collaboration PDF Print E-mail

President Obama Announces NATA/NFL/PFATS Collaboration

Today, a representative from NATA attended the first-ever White House Healthy Kids & Safe Sports Concussion Summit, designed in part to raise awareness of steps to prevent, identify and respond to concussions in young people.

NATA, in conjunction with the Professional Football Athletic Trainers' Society (PFATS), will support a national initiative to place athletic trainers in underserved high schools in NFL markets during the 2014 football season.  The National Football League Foundation and NFL teams will provide $1 million, with NATA adding another $125,000, to improve the health and welfare of those student athletes.

While your NATA staff continues to work diligently with the NFL on the details of the collaboration, we are thrilled that President Obama incorporated this initiative into his remarks during the Healthy Kids and Concussion Summit.

Read more about this exciting development, which includes additional press releases and relevant news stories by accessing our NATA Now blog here<>.
