Hello everyone-
As most of you know, the Minnesota legislative session is underway.  The MATA has been busy preparing and laying the groundwork in effort to revise and update the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act.  Representative Cy Thao is our chief author and Representative Jim Abeler is our co-author. The bill was introduced last March 17th, but was not heard in committee.  The house file number for our legislation is H.F. 1855.

The MATA needs your help with this legislation.   Our lobbyists have informed us to expect opposition to our bill from the physical therapists and occupational therapists.  In order to get this bill passed we need to continue pushing this legislative train forward with more phone calls and letters.

To access the bill changes, talking points, and sample support letters log into the "Member's Only" section of the web site. It is imperative that we gather as much support as possible. If you have difficulty logging into the Member's Only section, please contact the MATA webmaster: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Take care-

After about 2 years of work, we are ready to present the new Bylaws to the association. In order for the new Bylaws to be adopted, the membership will vote on this on March 12, 2010 at the GLATA Annual Winter Business Meeting. I urge your attendance at this event.

SWEDE-O, Inc. $500.00 Scholarship:    SWEDE-O continues it’s long time tradition as a major supporter towards the scholarship program as this entry level scholarship was created in 1986.  “On behalf of the MATA we want to thank SWEDE-O for their continued support and friendship towards our state association and the profession of athletic training.” - MATA President, Chris “Gorby” Gebeck.

The MATA $500.00 Graduate Scholarship and MATA $500.00 Entry Level Scholarship:  The MATA is pleased to be able to sponsor both of these scholarships.    The MATA acknowledges there are many outstanding athletic training students in entry level programs and are pursing post graduate degrees who are deserving of this award. They are the future of our profession.
