We had a successful meeting in 2004 with about 95 attendees at Minnesota State University , Mankato . The theme was “Exploring New Avenues and Options in Athletic Training”. The morning sessions included newer techniques used by Certified Athletic Trainers such as Kinesio Taping and IV Fluid Replacement. At the business meeting, we elected two new members to the Executive Committee. Mike Doyle was elected as our President-elect and Amy Hamilton was elected as our Secretary. We welcome Mike and Amy and thank Missy Strauch and Steve Ahlvers for all of their hard work and commitment to the MATA. In addition, we look forward to the future of the MATA with Paul Bruning as our President.
In the afternoon, many members toured MSU, Mankato ’s new athletic training room in the Taylor Center . The afternoon sessions were focused on ATCs in the non-traditional settings. Sue Finkam , our GLATA Lecture Grant speaker, led the afternoon with her presentation on “ATCs as Physician Extenders”. Bringing the sessions to a close was a panel discussion on ATCs at various non-traditional settings.
