Conference Review
On August 5, 2006, the MATA along with South Central College Emergency Medical Services, TRIA Orthopaedics and Gustavus Adolphus College hosted the first ever joint conference between athletic trainer's and emergency medical services in the state of Minnesota. Over 90 participants from across the state as well as Wisconsin and Iowa attended the sessions that included Heat Illness, Supplements, Aero Medical response, AHA updates and Cervical Injuries. The emphasis of the conference was to promote a team approach to working with emergencies that develop in athletics. Bridging the gap between the pre-hospital care protocols of emergency medical services and athletic trainers were the primary focus of the speakers.
The conference was very well received and all those in attendance stated they would like to see this style of conference continue and enjoyed the opportunity to see how another healthcare provider views pre-hospital care. Mankato's local TV station (KEYC) was in attendance and did a nice piece on their 6pm news.
If you would like more information on the conference please contact Paul Bruning (conference coordinator) at pbruning@gustavus.edu.
