CONSTITUTION OF THE MINNESOTA ATHLETIC TRAINERS' ASSOCIATION June 1979

ARTICLE I - NAME
- The name of this organization shall be the Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association.
ARTICLE II - OBJECTIVES top
- The objectives of this organization shall be:
- The advancement, encouragement, and improvement of the athletic training profession in all its phases, and to promote a better working relationship among those persons interested in the profession of athletic training and sports medicine.
- To develop and further the knowledge and ability of each of its members.
- To better serve the common interest of its members by providing a means for an exchange of ideas within the profession.
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP top
- Section 1 Membership in the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association shall be one of the following classifications: Registered, Affiliate, Advisory, Student, Retired, and Honorary.
- Section 2 Each member shall have the respective rights and duties as provided in the By-Laws of the Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association.
ARTICLE IV - ELECTION OF MEMBERS top
- Section 1 Application: Certified members, in good status, of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association will automatically be granted voting status with the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association.
- Section 2 Non-residents, Affiliate, Advisory, Hall of Fame and Honorary members shall complete and sign an application form stating his/her desire and intention to be a member of the Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association, and to advance its best interests in every reasonable manner, and to accept as binding upon him/herself its Constitution and Bylaws.
ARTICLE V - DUES top
- Certified Members: $35.00
- Non-resident members: $15.00
- Affiliate/Allied: $ 35.00
- Student Members: $ 10.00
- Hall of fame / Honorary Member : No fee
- Section 2 Certified and Student membership dues will be collected with their annual dues to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association..
ARTICLE VI - VOTING POWER top
- Section 1 Registered members shall be entitled to one vote upon all questions to the Association for decision.
ARTICLE VII - ORGANIZATION top
- Section 1 The governing body of this organization shall be the Executive Committee.
- Section 2 The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer/Membership Chairperson, and the State Representative. A quorum for an Executive Committee meeting shall be three members present.

Nominations for open Executive Committee positions will be secured by the President Elect from the membership. These nominations will be placed on the MATA web site 3 weeks prior to the state meeting. Voting will take place on line 7 weeks prior to the state meeting for a 4 week time period. Three weeks before the state meeting voting will cease and votes will be tallied. The nominee with the majority of votes will be the newly elected Executive Committee member. This person will be notified two weeks in advance of the state meeting. Each term of office will be for a two years. The newly elected officers will assume their official duties immediately after the state meeting. The President – Elect shall automatically assume the office of the President immediately after the conclusion of the President’s term in office.
- Section 4 Any vacancy in the office of the President shall be filled for the unexpired term by the President-Elect.
- Section 5 During the absence of the President, the President-Elect shall assume the duties of the President Protempore.
- Section 6 Removal of Officers: All association officers may be impeached on the following grounds: Malfeasance in office and/or actions contrary to or in violation of this Constitution and its By-Laws. Before impeachment proceedings can be instituted, a brief, containing the charges, with the name of the person or persons preferring charges, shall be drawn up and presented by a Certified member to the Executive Committee. The aforementioned brief must then be adopted by a majority vote of the Executive Committee prior to the formal presentation of charges. Impeachment of any officer shall require a majority vote of the voting membership.
ARTICLE VIII - MEETINGS top
- Section 1 The Annual Business Meeting and Clinical Symposium shall be held each year at a time and place set by the Executive Committee. A quorum consists of those voting members present.
- Section 2 The President, with the approval of the Executive Committee, shall appoint a Clinical Symposium Committee for the following year.
- Section 3 All committees shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Committee.
- Section 4 Motions that are brought forth before the membership may be voted upon at that meeting and must receive a majority vote of the voting membership.
ARTICLE IX - AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION top
- Section 1 All proposed amendments to the constitution shall be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee at least six weeks prior to the Annual Business Meeting. The Executive Committee shall distribute copies of the proposal to all voting members at least three weeks prior to the Annual Business Meeting.
- Section 2 A proposed amendment to the Constitution that has been properly submitted shall be read at the Annual Business Meeting and a two- thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Registered membership shall be necessary for the adoption of the said amendment.
- Section 3 The By-Laws may be amended at any official meeting of the Executive Committee by a majority vote.
